One hundred years from the opening of this exhibition will fall in the year 2121. Our concept is to ponder how the world will look in a year which is coincidentally also the name of this institute. The building was designed originally by Sumner Hunt and embellished upon by one of his draftsmen, George Wyman, as a commission for gold-mining millionaire Lewis L. Bradbury. Bradbury died before the building was finished, but his inspiration, based on an 1887 science fiction novel, has become a National Historic Landmark.

Once inside, the space opens out on a scale unimaginable given the building's unobtrusive exterior. The ground floor houses Gallery 3 and shop space, while the underground floor houses two galleries and a naturally lit sunken court. Though many of the deco details have been scrubbed on the inside, the exterior—at least above the ground floor—looks much like it did in 1931.
